COVINGTON, Louisiana – Dr. Angela Buonagura, a surgeon specializing in breast health, has rejoined St. Tammany Health System.
Dr. Buonagura started Monday (Jan. 18) as part of the health system’s Northlake Surgical Associates team and will see patients in their satellite clinic located beside the Women’s Pavilion, 301 N. Highway 190 in Covington.
“Breast cancer and breast health is a challenging specialty. There’s such an emotional component to it,” Dr. Buonagura said. “But I find it rewarding in its own way. It takes a huge emotional toll on the patient, and I want to be there for them, I want to explain to them what’s happening, I want to help them understand everything they’re going through.”
Dr. Buonagura is no stranger to St. Tammany. A graduate of Covington High School who earned her medical degree at the LSU School of Medicine, she joined the staff of STHS’s Northlake Surgical Associates shortly after medical school, eventually becoming the chairperson of the hospital’s Department of Surgery.
In 2011, she left Louisiana for a post at a hospital in northwest Arkansas, where she worked for 10 years.
Dr. Buonagura now lives in Covington with her husband, their 8-year-old daughter and a golden retriever named Jackson.
